The residents of Jubilee Village work diligently to manage their income and expenses in a manner that allows them to financially address their needs. Food stamps assist with food only, so other items of need must be paid for through their own means. The young women work hourly jobs, so if a situation arrives that causes them to work fewer hours, such as needing to stay home with a sick child, there is a reduction in pay for that week. Even a slight decrease in their paychecks can mean that, for that week, they may be unable to meet critical expenses.
For those situations, Jubilee Village maintains a Resource Room, replenished through the generous donations from church groups and individuals. The supplies in the Resource Room allow staff to assist young women who have immediate needs that can’t be addressed through other means.
Jubilee Village provides each formerly homeless young mother with a completely furnished apartment. The furniture is given to Jubilee Village through the Jubilee Furniture Store, and the other household items come from the Resource Room.
The space in the Resource Room allows for limited kinds and numbers of items. The specific items in need of replenishing vary, depending on usage, but the main supplies are as follows:
Baby Liquid Motrin (or similar)
Baby Lotion
Thermometers
Toddler gloves (with clips to keep them on coats)
Baby Orajel
Diapers: Sizes 3 & 4
Baby Wipes
Cleaning Supplies (Comet, Windex, Dish Soap, Clorox, Toilet Bowel Cleaner, etc)
Sanitary Napkins and Tampons
Laundry Detergent
Adult Body Wash
Sheet sets: Full Size
Warm Comforters: Full Size
Mattress Pads: Full Size
Shower curtains/liners & rings
Cake and casserole pans
Brooms and dust pans
** Vacuum Cleaners (critical need)
** Gas Cards (Jewel cards work for gas)
** Wal-Mart, Target Gift Cards (which would allow staff to use them to purchase the above items)
We are currently looking for groups to take on the ongoing responsibility of replenishing the room. If interested, please contact Michelle de Muir at 630-665-1584 or mdemuir@outreachcommin.org
PLEASE LEAVE A REPLY BELOW IF YOU ARE ABLE TO HELP US MEET THIS NEED.
